You are bidding on an awesome 1980 Vintage Les Paul Standard. This is a players guitar because it has been completely refinished and refurbished with all new hardware but has a fantastic action and the tone is amazing -- you can't beat old wood for a great tone and this wood is over 30 years old. The serial number indicates manufacture at the Nashville plant on May 1, 1980.
The guitar looks fantastic for a 31 year old guitar but has seen some use and has some history behind it. It has been refinished at least twice in its life. Judging from the pickup sockets it was probably a Gold Top originally before some idiot painted it a bright red sparkle!!! The good news is that it has been lovingly restored back to a Gold Top with a dark back by a master refinisher and has has all hardware replaced by new Gibson hardware.
The case is a Gibson pink plush case, a little beat up but very functional and so cool. These pink plush cases with the shroud are getting harder to find (please don't ask me to sell it separetely). I bought this one off eBay just for the guitar and will pass it along.
Here are the specs:
- 1 piece mahogany back -- no "pancake body" like the newer ones.
- carved maple top
- Gold Top, Dark Back, all laquered.
- 3 piece (looks like mahogany)
- big headstock (remember the '80s?)
- thin neck profile (60's maybe)
- rosewood fretboard
- brand new fret job
- Gibson 490R and 490T humbuckers
- new POTs (original switch)
- new Gibson Deluxe Tuners Nashville bridge
- Pink fur-lined Gibson case with shroud
- All latches work
I have owned this guitar for a couple of years and recently had it refretted and a new bone nut installed by Mockingbird Music in Berlin MA. The guitar plays and sounds incredible. It has a couple of marks from the refinishing around where the neck attaches to the body and a little wear where the strap hits on the back. I have tried to capture these in the photos. Let me know if you need additional photos.
The reason I'm selling it is that I have 3 other Les Pauls and all have fatter necks than this and I find it difficult to move between the two so I might as well sell it -- there are lots of other temptations out there after all
I completely stand behind my guitars. I'm a player and buy them to play, not to sell. I wont ship overseas, not for any money as its not worth the hassle. I will also only take Paypal payment from verified US addresses unless you want a local pickup then cash is king!!!
There is an $80 flat shipping cost but I will repay any amount over the actual shipping cost, it just makes it easier in case you have special shipping request.
Please let me know if you have any questions, good luck bidding!!!
